We can't do it without you!
Part of providing a
free service
to our community in the form of a Volunteer Fire Company, is
relying on community support. We provide timely 24 hour
protection of life and property, but we can't do it without
financial support. Did you know that there are over 80
fire companies in Lancaster County alone? Did you also
know that Lancaster City Fire is the only paid department in the
entire county? That's almost 900 square miles of homes, business,
and over 400,000 people being protected night and day by the
volunteer fire service. That's quite a responsibility!
Sure we rely on funding from the State and the Townships we
serve, but the
true funding and financial support comes from
you,
THE COMMUNITY.
Each of you that have donated items to our annual Sale or have
Volunteered your time or with your generous cash donations help
to keep the reality of the Rawlinsville Volunteer Fire Company
alive.
We hold an auction every April where you can sell your very own
items in return for a small commission to us, or you can donate
these items to us.
Our new station that we now call home (which replaced our old
building) is now a reality
and our newest
Seagrave Pumper which
was purchased in 1998 at a cost of $300,000 was made possible,
in part by your financial support.
Running a volunteer fire company is expensive. We have to
pay the electric bill, heat the firehouse during the cold
seasons, and pay the phone bill, just like you. However
there are far more expenses that we have, to keep the fire
company going.
Turnout Gear (the heavy coat and pants worn by a firefighter),
including helmet, boots, and gloves cost almost $1000 per set!
That's $1000 per firefighter! Think you pay a lot for
gas? How about filling the diesel tanks on our engines and
tanker! the hydraulic rescue tools we use, and all the hose,
nozzles, and miscellaneous tools are very expensive.
Even
a new fire truck costs over a quarter of a million dollars.
So that's why we ask for your help. Currently we have an,
almost 30% return on our fund drive mailings. That means,
out of all the fund drive brochures we send out, about 30% of
the households send them back with a cash donation.
This amount of return is great, but we can do better!
So please, when you get the fund drive brochure in the mail,
don't just throw it out. Open it up and take a look at it.
You will read about what's new at RVFC, current happenings, and
what our plans are for the near future. You are not
obligated by any means to make any kind of financial donation to
us, but at least take the time to find out a little more about
us.
Don't forget about your volunteer ambulance company either!
They need help just as much as we do!
Even if you don't live in our service area, find out about your
local volunteer fire and ambulance companies, and try to support
them as well.
Try to attend their dinners, and breakfasts, go to their
festivals and pitch some dimes, play bingo! With your
continued support of all the volunteer public safety agencies,
we can provide a cost-effective service to your community!
Thank You for your continued support,
The Rawlinsville Volunteer Fire Company
